- How does the media portrayal of Asians in film and television impact on Americans?

Oscar winning actor Geena Davis leads a national effort to combat the gender imbalance in the film industry. The Geena Davis Institute sponsors research on gender portrayal in film at its website SeeJane.org. Among its research findings are statistics documenting the under-representation and stereotyping of women in film. - Male characters outnumber female characters two-to-one when it comes to leads (59.0% compared to 26.0%), screen time (60.9% compared to 39.1%), and speaking time (63.7% compared to 36.3%).
- Although the number of female leads is a long way from parity, the percentage of family films with female leads has doubled since 2013.
- Female-led family films grossed 38.1% more on average than male-led films, a pattern that has remained consistent over four years.
